What is API standards?
API is the American Petroleum Institute is the largest trade association for natural gas & oil industry, which represent about 650 corporations.
Valve standards from API:
API SPEC 6D:
Pipeline valve specification. ISO 14313: 1999, Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries-Pipeline Transportation Systems-Pipeline Valves is adopted by API Specification 6D. This International Standard defines specifications and recommends that ball, test, door and plug valves be designed, manufactured, tested and documented for use in pipeline installations.
API 526:
Flanged valves for steel pressure relief. The norm for flanged steel pressure relief valves is a buy requirement. Basic specifications for immediate spring-loaded pressure relief valves and pilot-operated pressure relief valves are as follows: orifice designation and region; valve size and pressure rating, inlet and outlet; equipment; pressure-temperature constraints; and inlet and outlet center-to-face sizes.
API 527:
Pressure relief valve seat tightness R(2002). Describes techniques for determining the seat tightness of metal and soft-seated pressure relief valves, including standard models, bellows, and pilot models.
ANSI/API STD 594:
Valves check flanged, lug, wafer, butt-welding. API Standard 594 includes layout, material, face-to-face sizes, pressure-temperature scores and testing, inspection and testing specifications for two control valve kinds.
API 598:
Inspection and testing of valves. The standard includes inspection, additional inspection and strain testing specifications for resilient and metal-to-metal sitting door, globe, plug, ball, inspection and butterfly valves.
ANSI/API 599:
Metal plug valves-Ends of flanging, threading and welding. A buy scheme for metal socket valves with flanged or butt-welding handles and ductile iron plug devices with flanged ends in NPS 1 through NPS 24 dimensions corresponding to nominal pipe dimensions in ASME B36.10 M.
ANSI/API 600:
Bolted Bonnet Steel Gate Valves for Petroleum and Natural Gas Industries - Modified National Adoption of ISO 10434:1998.
API 602:
Compact steel gate valves — flanged, threaded, welded, and extended ends of the body. The norm includes compact carbon steel door valves in dimensions NPS4 and lower in threaded-end, socket-welding-end, butt-welding-end, and flanged-end.
ANSI/API 603:
Bolted Bonnet Gate Valves, corrosion-resistant, flanged and butt-welding ends. The standard covers flanged or butt-welded corrosion resistant bonnet gate valves in NPS dimensions 1/2 through 24, corresponding to nominal pipe sizes in ASME B36.10 M, and Classes 150, 300, and 600, as indicated in ASME B16.34.
ANSI/API 607:
Fire test for Quarter Turn Valves Soft-Seated. The standard includes the testing and evaluation criteria for the output of straight, soft-sitting quarter-turn pumps when the valves are subjected to certain flame circumstances set out in this norm. The processes outlined in this standard are applicable to all categories and dimensions of such valves produced from components mentioned in ASME B16.34.
API 609:
Double Flanged, Lug-and Wafer-Type Valves. The standard includes construction, equipment, face-to-face sizes, pressure-temperature scores, and testing, inspection, and testing specifications for gray iron, ductile iron, bronze, steel, nickel-base metal, or unique alloy butterfly valves which provide quick shutdown in the closed position and are appropriate for flow control.
API 6FA:
Fire test specification for valves. The standard includes the inspection and quality assessment criteria for API Spec 6A and Spec 6D valves when subjected to specific fire circumstances.
API 6FC:
Automatic backseat fire test for valve. The standard includes the inspection and efficiency assessment criteria for API Spec 6A and Spec 6D valves with automatic backseats when subjected to specific fire circumstances.
API 6RS
Referenced Standards for Committee 6, Standardization of Valves and Wellhead Equipment.
API 11V6:
Continuous Flow Gas Lift Installations design using Operated Valves of Injection Pressure. The standard maintains rules for assembly of continuous flow gas lift models using valves powered by injection stress.
ANSI/API RP 11V7:
Recommended Practice for Repair, Testing, and Setting Gas Lift Valves. The standard applies to repair, testing, and setting gas lift valves and reverse flow (check) valves.
API 520-1:
Sizing, selecting and installing pressure relief devices in refineries: Part I –Sizing and selecting. The suggested practice refers to the sizing and choice of stress support systems for materials used in refineries and associated sectors with a maximum permissible operating stress of 15 psig (1,03 bar g or 103 kPa g) or higher.
API 520-2:
Recommended Practice 520: Sizing, Selecting and Installing Pressure Relief Devices in Refineries-Part II, Installation. The suggested procedure includes setup techniques for machinery with a maximum allowable working pressure of 15 psig (1,03 bar g or 103 kPa g) or higher for stress relief systems.
ANSI/API 574:
Practices of inspection for components of piping systems. The standard includes testing of piping, tubing, valves and fittings used in petroleum refineries (other than control valves).
ANSI/API 576:
Pressure Relieving Devices Inspection. The suggested procedure discusses the inspection and repair methods frequently used in the oil and petrochemical sectors for automatic pressure relief systems.
