Instrumentation tools used by technicians

There are different instruments used by instrumentation technicians in a process industry. The tools in the following list are basic tools that you will probably need during the start-up or test of a project, regardless of the tests that are carried out.

Tube bender:

The tube bender is an instrument used to bend pneumatic or hydraulic line. This instrument is capable of bend tubes in different size and in different angle. Tube Bender is a simple mechanical handy device and also available with digital angle reader. There is no standard tube bender which could be used for types of tubes.

Tube cutter:

A tube cutter is a tool that is used to cut stainless steel, copper and plastic tubes. These are used by rotating it around the pipe and repeatedly tightening it until it cuts all of the ways through.

The cutter is fixed to the cutting holder of the cutter and tightened. After tightening the cutter to the tube rotate the cutter along the tube where the cut should be made. Turn around the tube until it is a perfect cut.

Tachometer:

The tachometer is used to measure the shaft rotation speed. Tachometer has a rotating knob at the top of the tachometer, which is connected to the rotating shafts for which the speed is to be measured.

Most commonly used tachometer by technicians are the digital tachometer. Digital tachometers, or to give them their proper title, digital tachometer generators, are usually non-contact instruments that sense the passage of equally spaced marks on the surface of a rotating disc or shaft.

Duct test port:

A rechargeable, portable electric drill is useful in the field to make holes in ducts for measuring air flows and temperatures. Hole plugs in the form of rubber stoppers or sheet metal caps seal your test ports when you are done.

Loop calibrator:

Loop calibrators are specially used to calibrate the 4-20mA current loop. These versatile instruments are capable of measuring current, sourcing current to unpowered devices in a loop, as well as simulating the operation of loop-powered 4-20 mA transmitters.

HART communicator:

Portable HART communicators are used to communicate with a HART loop. The communicator allows us to check the process variable status and to change the setpoints etc.
