Why we need three phase system instead of single phase?
We prefer a three-phase system to a single-phase system as it is more efficient, cost-effective and dependable for power generation, transmission & consumption.
In a single-phase system, the power delivered varies over time, resulting in pulsations that lead to inefficiency & unstable functioning of electrical machinery.
Conversely, a three-phase system provides consistent power, providing smooth performance, particularly for motors & industrial equipment.
3-phase motors are self-starting, smaller in size & more efficient than single-phase motors which require external starting mechanisms.
A three-phase system can transmit more power with less conductor material, making it more cost-effective over long distances.
It also provides flexibility because it can power both single-phase loads (such as household appliances) & three-phase loads (such as industrial machines).
Additionally, three-phase systems are more reliable since they can continue to work partially even if one phase fails, as opposed to single-phase systems, which shut down totally during a failure.
As a result, the three-phase system is preferred for practically all large-scale electrical installations.
