Why use an RCBO instead of separate RCD and MCB? Any drawbacks?
Advantages of RCBO
-
One device provides protection against both overcurrent (MCB) & earth leakage (RCD).
-
Saves space on distribution boards.
-
Isolates only the problematic circuit, which improves safety and reduces interruption.
Disadvantages of RCBO
-
Higher per-unit cost than a standalone RCD and MCB.
-
In some circumstances, defect detection is more sophisticated.
-
Some models have a limited number of neutral disconnection types.
