Why thyristor is considered as Charge controlled device?

During the process of the thyristor transitioning from the forward blocking state to the forward conduction state via the gate signal, the application of the gate signal (voltage between the gate and the cathode) causes an increase in the minority carrier density in the p-layer.

This, in turn, makes it easier for the junction J2 to break over in the opposite direction, which causes the thyristor to start conducting. When the size of the gate current pulse is increased, the amount of time necessary to inject the charge and switch on the SCR decreases.

By regulating the amount of charge, we are able to make adjustments to the time at which the SCR is activated.
