Why do we use transformers in electronic and electrical circuits?

Transformers are primarily used to transfer electrical energy and change voltage levels using electromagnetic induction.

Primary Reasons:

  1. Step-up (or) Step-down Voltage - Increase (or) decrease voltage.

  2. Electrical Isolation - Separate two circuits for safety.

  3. Reduce Power Loss - High voltage transmission reduces losses.

  4. Power Supply - Provide required low voltage for the electronic devices.

  5. Measurement & Protection - Used in CTs and VTs for relays and meters.

A transformer mainly changes voltage and provides the isolation between circuits.
