What is Tie Feeder?
A tie feeder in electrical systems means a feeder or a transmission line to interconnect two or more busbars, switch boards or substations as required for operational flexibility and dependability.
Its main purpose is to provide a means of transferring power from one part of the system to another, particularly where there may be a fault or where power supply is required when maintenance work is being carried out on a particular section of the system.
Through tie feeder capability it is also possible to handle overflow or outright failure on one side of the substation and thus improve the redundancy of the overall power system.
It also helps in load sharing of the feeders, which will help in better distribution of power.
Application of Tie Feeder
Tie feeders loads are extensively applied in substations, industrial plants and distribution centers to increase flexibility, capability of load management and dependability of the supply.
