A Load Break Switch (LBS) is an essential device in electrical distribution systems that safely interrupts or isolates electrical circuits when they are under load.

Its primary function is to provide a method for manually (or) automatically disconnecting a segment of the circuit without doing any damage to equipment or endangering personnel.

Unlike isolators, which can only operate in no-load mode an LBS is designed to generate (or) break electrical current up to its rated capacity.

It ensures

  • Safe maintenance,
  • Fault isolation &
  • System flexibility

by letting segments of the network to be detached without disrupting the overall system.

Load break switches are commonly utilized in medium voltage networks (up to 33 kV) to

hence ensuring system dependability and operational safety.
