What is Valve Stroke test?
Just wanted to share a bit about control valve stroke testing in process industries.
So, what is it? Basically, control valve stroke testing is like giving your control valves a health check. These valves are super important because they regulate the flow of liquids or gases in various industrial processes. If they don’t work right, it can mess up everything from pressure and temperature to the overall flow rate.
Here’s how it works: During a stroke test, the valve is moved from fully closed to fully open, and sometimes to positions in between. We do this to make sure the valve is responding correctly to the control signals.
What are we looking for?
- Accuracy: Does the valve hit the exact positions it’s supposed to?
- Speed: Is it moving at the right speed? Not too fast, not too slow.
- Smooth Operation: Is the movement smooth, or is it jerky or sticky?
- Leakage: Is there any leakage when the valve is supposed to be closed?
Why bother? Regular stroke testing helps prevent unexpected failures, keeps the process running efficiently, and ensures everything stays safe. It’s like making sure the brakes on your car are in good shape before a long trip. Refer the below link for the control valve Stroke checking procedure in process industries.
