What is Form Type A & Form Type B in Electrical Panels?
When designing a low voltage (LV) switchboard one important concept is the form of internal separation.
Form Type A
No internal separation
Busbars and functional units share the same space
Lower cost
Common in small or basic installations
Suitable for simple distribution systems
Form Type B
Busbars are separated from functional units
Better safety
Reduced risk during maintenance
Higher reliability
Common in industrial (or) important applications.
Choosing the correct form affects:
- Safety
- Maintenance access
- System reliability
- Compliance with IEC standards
It impacts long term performance.
If you are working with LV panels or switchboards always check the required Form type in the specification.
