What is a neutral current relay?
A neutral current relay is an electrical protective device that is used to protect electrical circuits especially in the three-phase supplies in order to monitor the current that is flowing through the neutral conductor.
Its main purpose is to identify shifts in the current values between the phases, which can be indicative of problems or failure points in an electrical system.
Functionality
Current Measurement
The relay measures current in the neutral wire is measured by the relay. In a balanced three-phase system, the neutral current is supposed to be zero, although it may not be under some conditions. However, if the loads are unbalanced or if there are harmonic distortions, the neutral current will increase and should be considered a problem.
Fault Detection
