What is a 14 Pin Relay?

A 14-pin relay is an electromechanical switching device that uses an electromagnetic coil to control multiple electrical circuits with a single control signal. It features 14 terminals, typically consisting of 2 coil terminals and 4 sets of changeover (4PDT – Four Pole Double Throw) contacts. These relays are widely used in industrial control panels, PLC systems, automation circuits, motor control, and protection systems where multiple loads need to be switched simultaneously.

How Does a 14 Pin Relay Work?

When the rated voltage is applied to the relay coil, it generates a magnetic field that attracts the armature, causing all four contact sets to change their positions simultaneously. The Normally Open (NO) contacts close, while the Normally Closed (NC) contacts open. Once the coil is de-energized, an internal spring returns the armature to its original position, restoring the contacts to their normal state. This allows low-power control circuits to safely operate higher-power electrical devices while providing electrical isolation.
