What if a Circuit Breaker fails to open?
A fault may still remain even after a breaker receives a trip command. Breaker Failure Protection (50BF) detects this and, if the breaker doesn’t open within the set time, trips upstream (or) adjacent breakers to isolate the fault.
It prevents a single breaker failure from becoming a major power system outage.
