What Do IP67 and IP68 really mean?

IP Code

The Ingress Protection (IP) rating defines how well a device is protected against the dust and water.

• First digit - Protection against solid particles (dust, sand & debris)

• Second digit - Protection against liquids (water)

Examples

• IP54 - Protected against limited dust ingress and water splashes (suitable for light rain)

• IP67 - Protected against temporary immersion in water (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes)

• IP68 - Protected against continuous immersion in water (exact depth and duration specified by the manufacturer) That small IP rating on your device can make the difference between costly damage and reliable protection.
