Advantages of IR gas detection 1.IR is a good consideration when you are measuring single gases (like Methane) and/or in an inert environment, since this technology is not affected by O2. 2.faster response time 3. self-diagnostic feature 4.failsafe ability 5.poison resistance 6.reduced maintenance costs
Disadvantages of IR gas detection
1.IR is optical and is not really a direct measurement of flammability - so if you have multiple gas components, and/or gases that do not register in the IR spectra band (i.e. H2 or ethylene for example), or if your process temperature is fairly high, then this technology may not be the best - there are other technologies better-suited for these applications.
