Types of Electrical wiring and how to select a wiring system

What is wiring

Electrical wiring refers to the electrical power distribution through the wires, by this distribution the electrical devices use this power for its operation, the flow of the current is in a closed manner it will start from the source and it will flow through the wire, it will give power to devices after that it will return back to the source by the neutral wire.

Types of Wiring

  • Cleat wiring
  • Batten wiring
  • Casing capping wiring
  • Conduit wiring

Cleat wiring

This can be considered as temporary wiring and it is one of the cheapest wiring methods. This wiring can be quickly installed, it could be easily installed and altered and if sometimes we need to dismantle it then it could be done without any damage to the cable and accessories this type of wiring is easy for fault repairing and it is easy to detect the fault

Batten Wiring

In this double single or three core cables are suited for teak wood batten, by the brass link clip and the buckle clip, holds the cable, the buckle clips are connected to the wooden batten by the help of brass pins, it can be easily installed and it is cheap and there is only less chance for leakage current, it is not suitable for outdoor wiring, it has a high risk for fire and it is only suitable for below 250V

Casing and capping wiring

This Is suitable for low voltage installation the material used in this type of wiring is insulated cables and vulcanized rubber, wood casing wiring system cannot be used in damp places or ill-ventilated places

Conduit wiring

It can be considered as a tube or channel for electrical installation tubular conduit is most commonly used, If the cables are drawn through the conduit and it is terminated at the outlet and then it is called conduit wiring

How can we select a wiring system

  • Installation
  • Alterations and future extension
  • Fire hazards
  • Corrosive fumes
  • Types of wire and material used
  • Safety of the system
  • Cost of the wiring system
  • It must be protected against any mechanical damage

Features of Electrical wiring

Electrical wiring consists of electrical equipment such as cables, switchboards, main switches, fuses, residual current device, lighting point, power point, lightning arrestors …
