Principle of Magnetic flow meter - Applications Advantages and Limitations

Magnetic flow meter operation is based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.

“The voltage (E) induced in a conductor of length (D) moving through a magnetic field (H) is proportional to the velocity (V) of the conductor”

E=CHDV

where C is the dimensional constant .

Advantages

The magnetic flow meter measures volume rate at the flowing temperature independent of the effect of Viscosity , Density , Turbulence ,or suspended material

Most liquids can be measured by magnetic flow meters.

Limitation

Electrical conductivity of liquid

Application of Magnetic flow meter Water , acids , base ,slurries ,liquids with suspended solids and industrial wastes are common applications .

  7. Can not be used to measure the conductivity is very low or non-conductive liquid media, such as distilled water, petroleum products or organic solvents.
  8. Can not measure non-conductive media: such as gas, steam, etc., is limited to the measurement of conductive liquids.
  9. Electromagnetic flowmeter used to measure viscous liquids with dirt, viscous material or sediment attached to the inner wall of the measuring tube or electrode, so that the transmitter output potential changes, bringing measurement errors, electrode on the dirt to reach a certain thickness, may lead to the instrument can not be measured.
  10. Due to the measurement of the pipe insulation lining material by the temperature limitations, the current industrial electromagnetic flowmeter can not measure high temperature and high pressure fluid.
