Is it possible to add an additional circuit from an already full circuit breaker?
It is generally not recommended to add another circuit to an already full circuit breaker panel.
Here are some important aspects to consider:
- Overloading a circuit breaker can cause overheating, resulting in electrical fires (or) damage to the electrical system.
- Circuit breaker panels are built to handle various loads. Installing more circuits than the panel is rated for may cause it to surpass its capacity.
- Electrical rules often prohibit overloading panels & have specified standards for circuit extensions.
If you require more circuits, consider the following options:
- Replace the current panel with one with larger capacity.
- Install a subpanel to increase circuit capacity.
- Have a competent electrician assess the current load distribution to see if any circuits may be merged or modified.
- Always consult a certified electrician to ensure that any alterations adhere to local electrical codes & standards.
