How to select the right VFD for the Motor?
When choosing the correct **Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) **start by looking at the motor nameplate specifications:
- Power,
- Voltage,
- Current &
- Frequency.
The VFD’s voltage and current specifications must meet (or) slightly exceed the motor’s.
Ensure that the input supply type (single-phase or three-phase) is appropriate for your system.
To properly handle overloads, choose a VFD with at least 10-15% more current capacity than the motor’s full-load current.
Subsequently look at the application type:
- Continuous Torque Loads: such as conveyors require heavy-duty VFDs
- Variable Torque Loads: such as fans or pumps can employ energy-saving variants.
Choose a control mechanism (V/f, vector or closed-loop) based on your performance requirements.
Check environmental variables including temperature, dust & mounting location before selecting the appropriate IP rating.
Finally, choose a reputable brand with excellent technical support and key features such as brakes, PID and communication choices for dependable & efficient motor control.
