Steps to check the Continuity of the Single Wire for Long Distance

Equipment Requirement

  • Multimeter (continuity test mode)
  • Long test leads (or) a helper with another multimeter
  • Alligator clips (or) probes

Steps to Check Continuity

Step-1: Disconnect Power To prevent electric shock (or) damage to your multimeter, disconnect the cable from any power source.

Step-2: Determine the 2 ends of the wire you require for testing.

Step-3: Turn on your multimeter & select continuity mode, which is commonly represented by a sound wave.

Step-4: Attach one multimeter probe to one end of the wire & another to the opposite end. If the wire is continuous, the multimeter will provide a beep or display a low resistance measurement. To complete the circuit over really long distances, you may want a long test lead (or) a helper with another multimeter at the other end.
