The 2 mats are very often located under the same MCC or Equipment room and should be at least 3.5m apart to prevent inter-action. Correct earthing of Instrumentation systems is critical to their performance and should be correctly applied.

Earthing is an essential part of an electrical installation that provides a safe path for fault current to flow into the ground, helping protect people, equipment, and electrical systems from electric shock, insulation failure, and equipment damage. Different earthing systems are selected based on the electrical network configuration, installation requirements, and applicable standards.

The main types include TT, TN, and IT earthing systems, with TN systems further classified as TN-S, TN-C, and TN-C-S.

In a TT system, the installation has its own earth electrode, while the supply source is separately earthed. It is commonly used where the utility does not provide a dedicated protective earth conductor.

In a TN-S system, the neutral and protective earth conductors remain separate throughout the installation, providing reliable fault-current paths and good safety performance.

In a TN-C system, the neutral and protective functions are combined in a single PEN conductor. A TN-C-S system combines these functions in part of the network and separates them within the installation.

An IT earthing system has an isolated or impedance-earthed source, allowing continued operation during the first earth fault. It is commonly used in applications where supply continuity is critical.

Proper earthing system selection, installation, testing, and maintenance are vital for electrical safety and reliable system operation.
