Cable Conductor Classes 1, 2, 5 & 6
Understanding these classes helps in selecting the right cable for the right application.
Class 1 – Solid Conductor: Rigid construction, commonly used in fixed wiring.
Class 2 – Stranded Conductor: Multiple strands, widely used in power cables and fixed industrial installations.
Class 5 – Flexible Conductor: Fine copper strands, commonly used in control cables, panel wiring, and flexible power cables.
Class 6 – Extra-Flexible Conductor: Finer strands than Class 5, used where greater flexibility is required.
The right conductor class improves installation convenience and helps meet application requirements.
These conductor classes are defined under IEC 60228. Always verify the applicable product standard and flexing requirements before selecting a cable.
