Why do we use Neutral Wire in Transformer (Secondary Side)?
Transformers are essential for the transmission & distribution of the electrical power.
The neutral wire, particularly on the secondary side, is an important transformer component. Its function is important for ensuring the system’s safety, stability, and efficiency.
A neutral wire’s principal purpose is to provide a conduit for current to return in the case of a fault in the single-phase transformer. The return path decreases the possibility of shock risks, which improves safety.
In a 3-phase transformer, the neutral wire regulates the voltage. Voltage imbalances are possible in a three-phase system because each phase can have different load conditions. By placing a neutral wire on secondary side, the system is able to balance the voltage and preserve stability.
The neutral wire transports current from the electrical devices back to the transformer & power source. Without a neutral line, there is no convenient path for current to return, resulting in an imbalanced electrical system.
Furthermore, the neutral wire minimizes power loss in the distribution lines. By providing a conduit for the imbalance currents, it guarantees that transformer capacity is fully utilized. Overall, adding a neutral wire to the secondary side of the transformer improves safety, stability, and efficiency.
