MATLAB (Software for Numerical Computing):
MATLAB is a high-performance computing language. It integrates computing, visualization and programming in an easy-to-use setting where familiar mathematical notation expresses issues and solutions.
It has developed over time and has become Numerical Computing’s most extensive software, Dyanimc System Simulations, Algebraic Solutions, Symbolic Mathematics, etc. It includes add-on packages for multiple functionalities (called Toolboxes). Toolboxes provide integrated features for numerical calculations, including, but not restricted to, ordinary and partial differential equations.
LabVIEW:
LabVIEW (Laborartory Virtual Instruments Engineering Workbench) is a system engineering software for apps requiring quick access to hardware and information ideas by testing, measuring and controlling.
The LabVIEW software provides a graphical programming strategy that helps you visualize all aspects of your implementation, including hardware setup, measurement information and debugging.
Pspice (Electrical Schematic Software):
SPICE (Integrated Circuit Emphasis Simulation Program) is a general purpose analog circuit simulator used to check circuit models and predict circuit conduct. PSpice is a SPICE PC version, and HSpice is a workstation and bigger computer version.
Using the Simulink to PSpice Interface (SLPS), OrCAD EE typically performs simulations for circuits specified in OrCAD Capture and may optionally integrate with MATLAB / Simulink.
ETAP:
ETAP and ETAP RealTime products have been used in generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial power system projects around the world.
Functions include arc flash analysis, load flow analysis, short circuit analysis, motor starting, OPF, transient stability analysis, generator startup, parameter estimation, cable sizing, transformer tap optimization, reliability assessment, transmission line constant calculations
PRDC (MiPower):
MiPower is an Indian product developed by Power Research and Development Consultants. MiPower is PRDC’s flagship product consisting of a broad range of software applications for electrical energy system design, analysis and simulation (transmission, distribution and generation systems). PRDC also owns a number of other products, such as hydrothermal coordination.
Features include Web-based packages, Renewable Energy Scheduling, Energy Auditing, Automated Fault Analysis System and several other hardware and firmware for the power system community.
PSCAD:
PSCAD is designed by Manitoba Hydro Int. Ltd for HVAC system. PSCAD is an electromagnetic time domain transient simulation environment and study tool, developed in 1988 and first commercially published in 1993. It is a dynamic simulator of multipurpose specializing in HVDC applications.
WinIGS from Advanced Grounding Concepts :
WinIGS is an “Integrated Grounding System” (IGS) analysis software. It has a simple graphical user interface (GUI) that makes it possible to model floor grids quickly and easily.
In particular, it enables the user to model any energy system in conjunction with its grounding structures, analyzes system performance under stable, normal and fault circumstances, and evaluates its performance against industry-standard requirements.
It also has lightning analysis tool. There is a preset 3D library of substation equipment (bulk supply transformers, circuit breakers, switches, rigid bus structures, etc).
PowerWorld simulator:
PowerWorld Corporation is an Illinois-based company that develops Windows PowerWorld Simulator suite of energy systems analysis instruments. The software focuses on a visual approach to simulation of the energy scheme.
Functions include load flow, short circuit, contingency analysis, sensitivity calculations, security constrained OPF, transient stability, transmission line parameter calculations. Includes scripting support.
The software includes an extremely efficient package of power flow analysis capable of solving systems with up to 250,000 buses effectively.
DSATools:
DSATools are developed by powertech lab. The tools are primarily designed for online dynamic security assessment. DSATools comprises four main modules:
PSAT: Power flow and short circuit analysis tool
VSAT: Voltage stability analysis tool
TSAT: Transient stability analysis tool
SSAT: Small signal analysis tool
SmartGridToolbox
SmartGridToolbox is a C++ library designed to develop discrete simulations based on events. National ICT Australia (NICT) created the SmartGridToolbox in cooperation with ANU and ActewAGL.
