## What is Arc Flash Analysis?

An **[arc flash](https://forumelectrical.com/arc-flash-calculator/)** occurs when an electrical fault causes current to flow through the air gap between conductors or between a conductor and ground.

The resulting electrical arc releases intense heat, bright light, pressure and potentially dangerous molten metal.

**[Arc flash analysis](https://forumelectrical.com/understanding-arc-flash-causes-effects-and-prevention/)** is a systematic study used to evaluate the potential hazards of an arc flash, calculate incident energy, determine the arc flash boundary and identify the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required to protect electrical workers.
