# Steps to check the Continuity of the Single Wire for Long Distance

## Equipment Requirement

- Multimeter (continuity test mode)
- Long test leads (or) a helper with another multimeter
- Alligator clips (or) probes

## Steps to Check **Continuity**

**Step-1:** Disconnect Power To prevent electric shock (or) damage to your multimeter, disconnect the cable from any power source.

**Step-2:** Determine the 2 ends of the wire you require for testing.

**Step-3:** Turn on your multimeter & select **[continuity](https://forumelectrical.com/conductor-continuity-and-phasing-test-procedure-for-132-kv-underground-cable/)** mode, which is commonly represented by a sound wave.

**Step-4:** Attach one **[multimeter](https://forumelectrical.com/digital-multimeter-calibration-procedure/)** probe to one end of the wire & another to the opposite end. If the wire is continuous, the multimeter will provide a beep or display a low resistance measurement. To complete the circuit over really long distances, you may want a long test lead (or) a helper with another multimeter at the other end.
